History charts

Introduction

History charts can be used to split data over different periods to show trends over time.

Adding data to a history chart

In a history chart you select the that attribute for which you want to display values on the X-axis. The Y-axis is used to display the variable values. By default the metric displayed on the Y-axis is the record count. If you want to display a different value, you must create a metric to calculate the value and use the metric on the Y-axis by selecting it from the Metric drop-down list.

Follow these steps to add data to a history chart.

Click on the chart to select it and go to the Chart tab.

Click on none next to X-axis and select an attribute or period filter from the table item list.
Note: If you select an attribute, it must be of type Date,Time, or Date+Time.

Create a new metric in the table item list.

Click on none next to Metric and select a metric from the drop-down item list.
Note: The Metric drop-down list only displays metrics and selectors that are defined in the table.

See illustration below for an example.



Note: If you select a period filter for the X-axis, all data from the selected period is displayed. If you select an attribute, all data is displayed.

Switching values

If you want to enable end-users to switch between different values in the chart, you can create different metrics, and add them to a metric selector. In that case, you select the metric selector from the Value drop-down list and add the metric selector to the Header controls panel.

Splitting the chart

You can split the data on the history chart by adding columns and rows. Select an attribute from the Column drop-down list in the Grid panel to split up the data by the selected attribute and display the information in different history charts. See illustration below for an example.



In the above example the data is split up per country. For each country a different history graph is displayed. You can add an additional dimension by selecting an attribute from the Row drop-down list to split the graph vertically in different rows. See illustration below.



By default the column width is determined automatically. It is possible to define a width for table items which can be useful for table items that have large text values. See Introduction to Table Items.

Note: You can only add rows if you have defined an attribute value for Column.
