Creating projects
Create and configure a test project to organize requirements, test cases, and test sets in Test Manager.
The test project is composed of artifacts (for example, requirements, test cases, test sets) that are targeted towards a joint testing goal.
Context
- Projects are visible only to project creators and Administrators. To enable access to other users to your project, see Managing user and group access.
- You can create an unlimited number of test projects.
- Projects are a segregation boundary: requirements, test cases, and test sets cannot be shared or linked across projects. The only object that can be linked across multiple projects is an automation.
To reuse a test case in another project, export it (as a .tmh file) and import it there. The imported copy becomes fully independent — changes to either copy no longer sync.
Any user role can create a project, while only Administrators/Project Owners can edit or delete projects.
For more information see Tenant roles and Project roles.
Steps
-
Log in to Test Manager.
-
In the Home page select Create new project.
-
Configure your test project:
- Name - Enter a name for your project.
- Prefix - Enter a short identifier for your project. Choose 3-5 characters that are prepended to all artifact IDs within your project. The prefix cannot be changed later.
- Description (Optional): Enter a description for your project.
-
Select Create.
Tip:- You can mark your project as Favorite to have it at hand on the Favorite projects page.
- To edit a project, open the context menu for the vertical ellipsis and select Edit on the project you want to update. You can change all project details except for the prefix.
Result
Your project is saved and you are redirected to the project dashboard.
