File to Base64

Convert a file into a Base64-encoded string using a native activity in the Studio Web API workflow designer.

The File to Base64 activity converts a file into a Base64-encoded string directly in the API workflow designer, without writing custom JavaScript code.

Use it when a downstream step expects a file as an inline Base64 string, for example when sending an image or audio file to an AI model or API that accepts Base64-encoded payloads.

Using the File to Base64 activity

To add a File to Base64 activity to your workflow:

  1. On your API workflow designer canvas, select the plus (+) icon. The Add activity menu appears.
  2. Select More ..., then File to Base64.
  3. In the Properties panel, configure the input file and the variable that stores the resulting Base64 string.
  4. Debug the workflow to execute the activity and generate output fields for later use.
