IXP overview guide
IXP, also known as Intelligent Xtraction and Processing, is a multi-modal data extraction capability. IXP converts data from unstructured documents and communications to structured data for automation and analytics.
Currently, IXP contains different experiences optimized for specific data types. The long-term goal is to provide a single unified solution to extract data from multiple different content types, such as emails and their attachments.
IXP contains the following core capabilities:
- Communications Data - Uses Communications Mining™ for processing communications data.
- Unstructured and complex documents - Provides a user interface optimized for unstructured and complex documents.
IXP also enables users to leverage another intelligent document processing capability, Document Understanding™, which is optimized for structured and semi-structured documents.
- For existing users, the only change is the IXP capability for unstructured and complex documents.
- Document Understanding remains a standalone service in Automation Cloud™, with the same access and governance.
- You can also access Document Understanding directly from IXP once you select the Structured and semi-structured documents option. For more details, check Capability types.
- Communications Mining is no longer a standalone service in Automation Cloud™. It is now a capability in the IXP service.
- To access Communications Mining, select IXP from the navigation menu. Then, select the Communications data capability.

- The Communications data landing page looks slightly different from the original Communications Mining landing page. However, you can still access
your existing datasets or create new ones.
