Deploy a conversational agent to Microsoft Teams so users can access AI assistance through the UiPath Autopilot plug-in, either in chat or in the Agent Chat tab.
Overview
Deploy your conversational agent to Microsoft Teams to bring AI assistance directly into your team's collaboration workspace.
There are two ways to interact with an agent in Teams:
- Chat — Message the agent directly in a Teams chat, through the UiPath Autopilot plug-in. Best for quick questions without leaving a conversation.
- Agent Chat tab — Open the Agent Chat (Preview) tab in the same app for the full agent experience, including starting prompts, conversation inputs, tool-call confirmations, and in-app citation previews.
Both experiences use the same agents, and you can move between them at any time.
Intended users: End users who work primarily in Microsoft Teams and need conversational agent access without leaving their collaboration workspace.

Prerequisites
To make a conversational agent available in Microsoft Teams:
Admin setup
- Sign in to Microsoft Teams.
- Select Apps and search for UiPath Autopilot.
- Select the app from the search results and select Add.
- Publish the conversational agent to your desired Orchestrator folder.
- Ensure users have appropriate permissions to access the agent.
User requirements
- Microsoft Teams account with access to the UiPath Autopilot app.
- Permissions to use the published agent.
Accessing the agent
- From the Teams sidebar, select UiPath Autopilot to open the chat.
- Send any message to begin authentication if this is your first time.
- Follow the prompts to sign into your desired Automation Cloud Organization and Tenant to complete authentication.
- Select your agent from the Conversational agents list.
- Send messages directly to the agent.
Conversational agents in Teams only support direct chats with a user through the UiPath Autopilot plug-in. Channel discussions and @mentions are not supported.
Chat features
The chat experience in Teams follows the Teams UX patterns. This section describes how each feature works when messaging the agent directly in a Teams chat. For the tab experience, see Agent Chat tab.
Chat features are driven primarily by prompts in Microsoft Teams.
Starting a new chat
Microsoft Teams only supports clearing conversation context. You can clear the chat context by sending the prompt "New chat". Although you will be able to see the previous chat exchanges, the previous context will be cleared and the agent will continue like you started a new chat session.
Chat history
Microsoft Teams only supports a single chat thread at a time and previous messages are visible within the same Teams conversation thread. Scroll up to view earlier messages in the session and previous sessions.
Citations
When an agent uses knowledge sources to generate a response, citations appear to show the origin of the information. Citation markers appear inline in the agent's response.
Citation preview opens the document in the default web browser.
Agent Chat tab
The Agent Chat (Preview) tab provides the full conversational agent experience inside Teams, without the formatting and interaction limits of a Teams chat. It is available in the UiPath Autopilot app and in each dedicated Teams app.
The Agent Chat tab is in Preview.
Opening the tab
- From the Teams sidebar, select UiPath Autopilot (or your dedicated agent app).
- Select the Agent Chat (Preview) tab at the top of the app.
- Select Sign in and complete authentication with your UiPath account in the pop-up window.
- Select your tenant. If you have access to only one tenant, it is selected automatically.
- Select an agent from the list, then send your message.
In a dedicated Teams app, the tab opens directly on that app's agent and the agent list is skipped.
The tab keeps you signed in for as long as the tab is open. Closing it ends the session, and you sign in again the next time you open the tab.
Tab features
In addition to everything available in chat, the Agent Chat tab supports:
| Feature | Description |
|---|---|
| Starting prompts | The agent's welcome message and suggested prompts appear when you open a new conversation. Select a suggestion to send it. |
| Conversation inputs | If the agent requires inputs, you are prompted for them before the conversation starts. Optional inputs can be set or changed at any time from the settings (gear) icon, and apply to the rest of the conversation. |
| Profile settings | Set your name, email, role, department, company, country, and timezone from the settings (gear) icon. Agents can use these details to tailor their responses. |
| Tool-call confirmations | When the agent needs approval before running a tool, an approval prompt appears inline showing the tool and its inputs. You can adjust the inputs before approving, or reject the call. |
| Multiple conversations | Keep several conversations with the same agent and switch between them from the history panel. Search past conversations, or delete a conversation you no longer need. |
| Citation previews | Select a citation to open the source document in a preview panel inside the tab, rather than in a separate browser window. |
| HTML preview | When an agent returns an HTML code block, the tab renders it as a live preview once the response completes. You can toggle between the preview and the source, or open it in a larger view. |
| Copy and feedback | Copy any response with one selection, and rate responses with thumbs up or down. Feedback is attached to the agent's traces. |
| File uploads | Attach files to your message for the agent to work with. |
Finding and switching agents
The agent list shows every agent you have access to in the selected tenant.
- Search — Use the search box to filter agents by name or description.
- Favorites — Mark the agents you use most so they appear in a Favorites section at the top of the list.
- Switch agent — Select Back above the conversation to return to the list and choose a different agent. Each agent keeps its own conversation history, so switching does not clear your earlier conversations.
Teams commands
Use the View Prompts dropdown on the bottom right-hand side of the chat to access available commands:
| Command | Description |
|---|---|
| Help | Displays the help message to understand capabilities |
| Logout | Signs you out from the current Org and Tenant |
| Change tenant | Prompts you to select a new tenant |
| Switch Agent | Choose from available conversational agents |
| Machine configuration | Not applicable for Conversational Agents |
| List my accessible automations | Not applicable for Conversational Agents |
Limitations
The following features are not available when messaging the agent in a Teams chat. Unless noted otherwise, they are available in the Agent Chat tab.
| Feature | Notes |
|---|---|
| Delete chat session | Deleting chat sessions is not supported |
| User-profile settings | Configuration of profile information is not supported |
| Starting prompts | Not propagated to Teams interface |
| Conversation inputs | Inputs configured for the conversational agent are not propagated to Teams interface |
| Tool-call confirmations | Tool-calls cannot require confirmation |
| HTML preview | HTML content displays as raw text |
| Copy response | Responses must be manually highlighted and copied |
| Feedback | Submitted feedback is not attached to traces yet |
Channel discussions and @mentions are not supported in either experience.
Troubleshooting
Agent not appearing in Teams
- Verify the agent is published to Orchestrator.
- Check that the UiPath Autopilot for Teams app is installed.
- Use the Switch Agent command to see available agents.
- Ensure you are connected to the correct tenant.
Agent Chat tab issues
- If the sign-in pop-up does not appear, check that pop-ups are allowed for Microsoft Teams in your browser, then select Sign in again.
- If the tab reports that it is configured for a different UiPath organization, select Sign out and sign in again with the organization that the agent belongs to.
- If your session expires, a banner appears above the conversation. Select Sign in again to continue without losing your conversation.
- If no agents appear in the list, confirm you selected the correct tenant, and that the agent is published to a folder you have access to.
Conversation issues
If conversations fail to start or respond:
- Check the agent's connection status in Instance Management.
- Verify robot assignments in the solution folder.
- Use the Logout command and reconnect to refresh your session.
