Find obsolete tests

Identify and manage obsolete test cases linked to requirements in Test Manager using Autopilot for Testers, available via Test Cloud.

Note:

This capability is available only in Test Manager delivered via Test Cloud. Feature availability depends on the cloud platform you use, refer to the Test Manager feature availability page.

Use Autopilot to identify test cases that may no longer be relevant to an updated requirement. Autopilot analyzes test case coverage, checking for:

  • Deprecated functionality
  • Redundant coverage
  • Outdated environments or dependencies
  • Misaligned or unsupported test steps

Prerequisites

To find obsolete tests linked to requirements, your Test Manager role must have the following permissions:

  • Requirement - Edit
  • Test Case - Edit

Steps

To find obsolete test cases linked to a requirement, follow these steps:

  1. Open a project, and navigate to Requirements.
  2. Select More Options for the desired requirement, and choose Optimize coverage.
    Note:

Alternatively, open the requirement, and then choose Optimize coverage.

  3. In the Optimize coverage dialog, select Find obsolete tests.
  4. In the Add documents section, select the attachments to use when searching for obsolete test cases. You can also upload other files.
  5. Select Next.
  6. Enter additional instructions for Autopilot in the Provide additional guidance window. You can also choose a prewritten prompt from the Prompt library.
  7. Optionally, from the Model dropdown list, select the AI model that Autopilot should use.
  8. Select Find obsolete tests to start the process.

Result

Autopilot identifies obsolete test cases linked to the requirement and notifies you with an Obsolete tests discovered or No obsolete test cases discovered message. Depending on your notification preferences, you receive this notification in-app, by email, or both.

You can then unassign the flagged test cases, or add labels to them, based on your needs.
